23 Oct 2007 Scott Henry was a classmate of mine at Loara High School in Anaheim California... He was a fun-loving guy who was friendly to all. His pride and joy was his '56 gun-metal grey Ford ... he left behind family and a lot of friends who miss him. Scott and I were not close friends but classmates and aquaintances. I learned of his loss when I returned from my tour in Northern Thailand. Scott was a good guy and I just want people to know he will always be remembered. I have visited his place on the Viet Nam Wall in Washington D.C. and also several times on the moving wall which has travelled throughout the U.S. Scott, you are not forgotten. The 4th Infantry Division's Operational Report for the period Aug-Oct 1968 contains the following entry for 14 August: "At 1820H [6:20 pm] in vicinity AT815200 3rd and 4th [Platoons], A Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry received a heavy weapons attack which included 75mm recoilless rifle and 82mm mortar fire. FAC [Forward Air Controller] aircraft received heavy ground fire and was forced to return to Dak To with three hits." That single short entry doesn't tell the full story; costly to both sides. The engagement near Fire Support Base 29, 7 kilometers southwest of Ben Het, resulted in the deaths of 14 US soldiers. Camacho-Rodriguez, Corozal, Puerto Rico SP4 Gary Lee Maloy, St Cloud, Florida SP4 John Bruce Mularz, Rochester, New York SP4 Robert John Santoro, Canada (medic, HHC w/ A/3/12) PFC Roy L. Edelstein, Superior, Wisconsin PFC Steve Donald Lee, Rockford, Illinois PFC Bobby Lee Riley, Bradenton, Florida PFC Francis Anthony Schwarz, Chicago, Illlinois B Battery, 6th Battalion, 29th Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry 1LT Daniel Leo Neuburger, Ellis, Kansas, Forward Observer with A/3/12 The battalion lost another soldier from D Company, PFC Robert Gean Cooper of Azusa, Calfornia, in a separate engagement. His company was located southwest of Ben Het village while on perimeter defense when his unit received incoming mortars. CPL Scott D. Henry was survived by his mother Myra (Ballad) Henry Riopel (1921-2007) father Donald Henry (1922-1978), sister Susanna Ada Avanzino (1943-1999), and brother Mike Henry.
