John Byron Smith was a good friend of mine. He was loyal and had a good sense of humor. John was a "lefty" and he had a mean left hook! We shared many good times together. He cared about his parents and loved his his country! May he rest in peace. |
A Note from The Virtual WallHospital Corpsman John B. Smith was assigned to H&S Company, 1/5 Marines, but was serving in the field with one of the Battalion's rifle companies. On 29 August 1968 the 1/5 Marines lost 17 men killed in actions - four from Alpha Company, one from Bravo Company, eleven from Delta Company, and HN John Smith. Regretably, The Virtual Wall cannot determine which of the rifle companies he was with.
