15 Mar 2006 What a funny guy, he could make you laugh just by being there. Bill was a close and trusted friend, we can only imagine what he could have accomplished had he lived. He was taken from us too soon because he was doing his duty to the best he knew how, 100% all of the time. He is greatly missed by all of us who knew him. From a friend, Joe E. A Note from The Virtual Wall The March 1967 Command Chronology for the 4th Bn, 12th Marines, contains the following entry: "300157H [sic] - M/4/12 155 How[itzer] (SP) blew up during a fire mission against the enemy. 3 KIAs and 3 WIAs were sustained." The three men killed in the accident were Sgt Richard A. Menees, Blue Mountain, MS; Cpl Edwin S. Garber, Seattle, WA; and Pfc William C. Relf, Dallas, TX. The Command Chronology entry above contains a typographic error - the accident actually occurred in the very early hours of 31 March, not in the early hours of 30 March.
