Uncle Eddie was the only son born to Charles and Helen Perry. He was 18 when he went to war. He was brought back home for the funeral at age 19. It was a closed casket as there was not much to bring back home.

One of my fondest memories of Eddie was when we were just kids and were playing with matchstick guns - for those who don't know, they are homemade guns that strike a matchstick as it shoots. Anyway Eddie had some sort of nylon shirt on and the matches melted little holes all over his shirt, it was pretty funny at the time. Thank You Eddie, my friend, for your most extreme sacrifice.

A Note from The Virtual WallThe 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry, lost three men on 30 Apr 1968 - two from B Company and one from Headquarters Company. All three were killed by "explosive devices" - mines or booby traps. While The Virtual Wall cannot prove it so, it seems likely that SP4 Perry was in the field with B Company and died in the same incident that killed the two men from B/4/23. The three were
