John William Murphy, 20, who died in Vietnam on December 14, 1970 was born at The Dalles, Oregon on July 21, 1950. He was survived by his father, Dr. John Murphy and his mother, Anne Hallmark, both of Pendleton. He was also survived by his brother Patrick and two sisters: Carol and Lynn (Sherry) and a foster sister, Mrs. Joe Howdyshell, a nephew Brian Evans, his grandparents and several aunts and uncles. His funeral was held at First Presbyterian Church and Burial was at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton: Block 36, Lot 18, Grave 2. While in Vietnam he served with the 326 Medical Battalion, of the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles). John was killed in a helicopter crash with members of the 502nd Infantry and the crew of the helicopter. He rests with the Eagles. Godspeed. McColt |
A Note from The Virtual WallFive men died when a UH-1 Huey from the Aviation Platoon, 326th Medical Bn, was shot down. Four of the men were from the 326th Med; the fifth was a medic from 2/502nd Infantry.
