The database page for William George Batts
I served with William and was with him when he was wounded. He served his country with honor and was a personal friend. I will never forget that day as he knew that it was his time before we went on the assault. He told me and I sent him to sick bay but they sent him back. I think of him daily and remember his smile when he said it would be OK. If it was his time then that was what it would be. I held him as his blood ran out of his body waiting for the chopper. They took him and radioed back that he had passed. Later that day I wrote his family and told them what happened. I remember a lot of men who passed under my command as platoon leader. I will not forget the brothers I served with. They will always live in my heart and I will continue to tell of their sacrifice for those who did not serve. You were my friend, Bill, then and now. You are not forgotten. For those who fought for it, Life and freedom have a flavor the protected will never know.
