He was listed as the fifth serviceman from Middletown, Ohio to be killed in the Vietnam War. He entered the service May 13, 1966.

He was born in Hazard Perry County, Kentucky, and lived in Middletown most of his life. He attended Middletown and Franklin City Schools before he entered the service.
